The flag of Jamaica was adopted on August 6, 1962 (Jamaican Independence Day), the country having gained independence from the British-protected  Federation of the  West Indies. 

Green, Yellow and black are the colors of Jamaica. Green, yellow and red are the colors of the Rastafarian movement. 

Green- for the land

yellow- for the sun

Black- for the people

Red- for the blood of those lost.
